This module introduces the various agricultural cultivation systems to the students. Both indoor and outdoor systems will be covered, with focus on urban farming technology such as hydroponics, aeroponics and aquaponics. Students will learn about the benefits and risks of each agro-system and examine the different parameters for yield improvement, such as lighting, irrigation, and microclimate. As advances in this field rely on technological innovations, students will learn about the various tools available such as Controlled-Environment Agriculture (CEA), Internet-of-Things (IoT), and automation. Through understanding the importance of different factors in agro-systems, students will be able to better manage an urban farm and facilitate the diverse and increasing agricultural demands.
