The President’s Award for Teachers (PAT) recognises excellent educators for their role in moulding the future of our nation. RP celebrates the hard work and dedication of our educators in inspiring our students and their peers.
"Every student matters to me, each with unique needs and aspirations. They’re my inspiration—they push me to rethink how I teach and how I connect with industry."
– Eric Kwek, Senior Lecturer at RP School of Applied Science and Finalist for the President's Award for Teachers 2025
Born with an eyesight anomaly, Eric understands the transformative power of teachers who believe in their students' potential. Over his 20-year career, he has helped students like Crystal Tan overcome self-doubt to become valedictorian and pursue Life Sciences at NUS, and Joanne Chew develop teamwork skills to secure a role at the Singapore Food Agency. When students found his module difficult to relate to, Eric redesigned it using storytelling and real-world practices, earning him the MOE Innergy (Commendation) Award in 2023 and equipping over 130 students with professional Food Safety credentials.
Eric's impact extends beyond the classroom through industry partnerships with Wilmar International and Enterprise Singapore, creating Singapore's first internship Playbook for Food Manufacturers. His commitment to continuous learning—earning ISO 22000 certification in 2024 and training in Germany—has inspired colleagues to strengthen their expertise. Congratulations to Eric for embodying RP's ExCITE values and creating greater possibilities for students and the food industry.
