Ms Malini Thyagesan, Senior Lecturer at RP School of Applied Science, has been conferred the President’s Award for Teachers (PAT) 2023. The highest accolade in the teaching profession, the award recognises excellent and experienced educators for their dedication and hard work in developing our young. Ms Malini shares her memorable teaching and learning journey in RP:
"Every student is unique and have their own strengths and weaknesses. More importantly, they must be given opportunities to take ownership of their learning to attain a holistic education and be inculcated with a growth mindset for lifelong learning. With this mindset, students can develop skills to help them be ready for work.It warms my heart when I see students taking baby steps and making progress in overcoming challenges. Seeing them grow and achieve their fullest potential as confident individuals is a powerful motivator for myself. The sense of fulfilment comes from knowing that I had a direct influence in shaping their young minds and making a positive difference in their lives.Receiving the PAT is not just an individual achievement. It is also a representation of the efforts of many dedicated teachers who work synergistically to make initiatives beneficial for students. Being a PAT recipient also comes with a sense of responsibility to inspire others, and to contribute to the growth and success of those around me, so that we can achieve greater heights together as #OneRP. It further encourages me to stay connected with my passion and purpose of being a teacher as I continue to do my best for my students."
