This module aims to equip students with the fundamental knowledge and understanding of managing health and safety (H&S) aspects at workplaces. Students will be exposed to the Singapore H&S legal framework and various internationally/nationally recognised H&S management systems – one of the most important ones being the Ministry of Manpower Safety Management System. The module introduces various hazards, as well as their classifications, consequences and preventive measures. The hazards associated with different gases, solids and liquids, as well as hazards from fire, radiation, chemical, biological agents, ergonomic and psychosocial will be examined. The appropriate emergency responses for the various hazards will be discussed.
