The module aims to equip students with aircraft electrical fundamentals with major electrical components required for aircraft electrical systems. It delves into the intricate workings of various configurations of both DC and AC aircraft electrical systems. The module will thoroughly cover topics such as aircraft electrical power generation, distribution, and utilisation. Students will learn how to analyse the functionality of aircraft electrical systems under normal, abnormal, and emergency conditions at system level. Additionally, the module covers a detailed study of electrical power utilisation systems such as lighting systems, ice and rain protection systems, electrical ignition systems, engine fire detection and protection systems. These concepts are reinforced through practical hands-on sessions employing aircraft electrical systems trainers, aircraft ice and rain protection trainers, aircraft engine ignition, fire detection/protection trainers, and a Boeing 747 simulator.
