Digital technologies heavily influence the operations of the media industry. Media professionals should have a solid understanding of how these digital tools are consumed and can be used in communications work. Through hands-on activities, students will learn technical skills and approaches for working with raw information related to digital technology across a range of topic areas. The module is cognisant of the fact that students taking this module would have already been exposed to many of these tools. However, it aims to develop a deeper understanding of the thinking process that prefaces the products that students create. The topics covered in this module include websites and social networking platforms, the user interface in designing websites and mobile sites, online advertising and viral marketing campaigns, and web and social media analytics.
