Arts History introduces students to a broad context of topics related to the history and evolution of the creative arts. Students learn to identify iconic works across East-West creative histories up to contemporary times, and gain relevant skills related to visual, formal, historical, and socio-cultural literacies. Students discuss art movements and specific artists and works, and learn how to interpret the key concepts of form, function, medium/material, aesthetics, and representation (symbolic, conceptual, ideological) in different contexts, including their chosen disciplines – audio, media and production, games, art and theatre, and design. Finally, students hone their ability to comparatively examine, analyse and articulate gained insights across the critical topics and contexts of artists and art movements, technological and cultural legacies and influences, and socio-political events.
