UACOI successfully conducted another Agrifood Research and Innovation Showcase (ARIS), themed "Agritech Innovation for Smart Farm Operation", at Republic Polytechnic on 25 June 2024. The event focused on the pivotal aspects of smart farming, showcasing innovative solutions to tackle global challenges of agriculture such as erratic climate change, resource constraints and labour shortages faced by local farms.
Singapore Food Agency (SFA) provided insights into the framework of smart agriculture for Singapore urban farms, in the presentation on "Towards Agri 4.0". Woon Leng Nursery shared its experiences of using smart devices to overcome the manpower challenge in its greenhouse for cultivation of high-valued orchids. Our UACOI team shared the aim of promoting the approach for the development and integration of practical smart technologies to enable data-driven agriculture without imposing high capital investment. The team also enlightened the attendees with their knowledge and expertise on market-driven R&D in smart farming, which covers research concepts in developing smart techniques for plant health surveillance, potential research approaches and values of leveraging IoT, data analytics, and AI applications to enable practical Controlled Environment Agriculture in urban farms, as well a ready IoT device in automating artificial lighting for urban farms.
The event offered attendees meaningful insights and inspiration into the capabilities of smart farming. We anticipate everyone's continued support and engagement as we take on the challenge of future-proofing sustainable urban agriculture at our upcoming ARIS events in 2024 and beyond!
