The annual Shizuoka-Singapore Agri Food Forum returned in person in Shizuoka on 9 Nov 2023. It was an enriching experience for the participants from Singapore and from Shizuoka prefecture, Japan. Initiated in 2019 between Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan and Singapore involving Republic Polytechnic, Temasek Polytechnic, Ngee Ann Polytechnic, and Institute of Technical Education, the forum aims to facilitate collaborations in urban agriculture R&D, expansion of local agritech SMEs, and staff-student exchange between the 2 regions. The 2023 forum saw 213 participants from both countries attending physically and virtually for the advanced agri-tech exchange.
In addition to the keynote presentation and panel discussions on energy efficiency and autonomous farming for sustainable agriculture, the participants witnessed the successful collaborations between Japan and Singapore companies (Masuda Seeds and Sustenir). Prior to the forum, some of the Singapore participants visited the high-tech plant factory (808), tomato and strawberry greenhouse farms and education and research institutes in Shizuoka Prefecture. The forum has paved the way for future partnerships, and we look forward to exciting opportunities in the shared challenges between us. The next Shizuoka-Singapore Agri Food Forum in 2024 will be hosted by Republic Polytechnic, Agriculture Research and Innovation (AGRI) Centre - UACOI. Stay tuned for more information on the event!
