About the Course

The Work-Study Post-Diploma (Specialist Diploma in Digital Content Creation for Business) will provide opportunities for participants to deepen their skills and knowledge needed for producing engaging digital content for the typical distribution platforms businesses use in today’s market. 

Graduates of this Specialist Diploma are able to create digital content for various media platforms and formats. In addition, graduates are equipped with knowledge and skills in user experience, project management and business models. In short, each graduate is able to create, manage and monetize brand and marketing messages.

Target Audience

Diploma graduates in Media, Design, Marketing, Mass Communication. 

What is So Unique About This Programme?

This course is a collaboration between Republic Polytechnic (RP) and Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS). Upon completion, you may pursue a Bachelor of Science in Digital Media at SUSS and receive credit exemptions for it. 

How Often Do I Need to Attend the Course?

Lessons will be held two times a week at RP ACE @ Woodlands for PDC1 and Singapore University of Social Sciences for PDC2. SUSS schedule to be found on SUSS website.

Note: Some lessons will be conducted via online learning. 

I used to struggle with creating things from scratch and would have to constantly look at designs for inspiration. However, after going through the graphic design module, I learnt to overcome my own obstacles and can now create a good piece of design from scratch by exploring the tools available on the different platforms I use for designing.

Specialist Diploma in Digital Content Creation for Business

Participants will be awarded the Post-Diploma Certificate (PDC) upon successful completion of each certificate programme. The Specialist Diploma in Digital Content Creation for Business by Republic Polytechnic will be issued upon meeting 50% of attendance requirement and passing the assessment criteria of both PDCs.

Module Synopses

1. Post-Diploma Certificate in Design by Republic Polytechnic

Visual Communication (30 hours)

This module introduces design fundamentals required to produce meaningful and effective works which adhere to industry standards. Through a series of practical assignments rooted in professional creative and design settings, students will apply a combination of traditional and digital methodologies  to communicate ideas in both print and digital media.  By the end of this module, students will be able to practice design on a professional level, create works built around the needs of the client, and reach and persuade an intended target audience effectively.

Digital Photography (30 hours)

This module introduces the craft of digital photography and the key technological developments that directly influenced this creative practice. Students will explore the styles and techniques of master photographers across a representative range of genres. The module also provides instruction in camera operations, digital workflows, and image manipulation techniques using industry-standard software. The module teaches students to propose, create, and critique an online photography portfolio. 

User Experience Fundamentals (30 hours)

Understanding user needs is key to creating great digital content. This module teaches students how user experience (UX) research and design techniques help designers better appreciate their target users and create great experiences for digital content consumers. This module is structured to provide a balance of UX theory, with practical, hands-on exercises on essential UX techniques and tools. By the end of the module, students will be able to apply UX theory to guide the organisation and presentation of interactive content for consumers on a range of representative digital platforms. 

Business Model Design (30 hours)

Due to the advent of disruptive trends and technologies, traditional business models need to transform into new digital business model by engaging in new management styles. Students will be introduced to design thinking and how it applies to business model design. From this module, students will learn the differences between Agile and Lean Start-up business methodologies.

2. Post-Diploma Certificate in Production by SUSS (Singapore University of Social Sciences)

Virtual Reality Filmmaking (36 hours)

The immersive Virtual Reality 360-degree video experience is fast gaining interest across the entertainment, education and professional industries. Film production techniques have over the years transitioned from 2D, to 3D and now to the fully immersive VR360. Traditional story-telling techniques remain, but the technology has changed the perspectives of the audience viewing experience. Virtual Reality Filmmaking introduces the technology and techniques of VR 360 Filmmaking, looking at its history, technology and processes. It also introduces the tools of VR360 video acquisition and postproduction and how to use them in the genres of narrative film, documentary and live event production. Practical skills include storytelling, producing, filming and editing techniques using 360 cameras. Software skills include the use of Samsung Gear 360 for VR editing.

Principles of Project Management (36 hours)

Principles of Project Management will provide both theoretical and practical insights on the management of projects. Students will be taught the characteristics of different industries, and how project management skills apply in them. These give undergraduates a solid foundation in the appreciation and application of project management. It prepares them for an in-depth understanding of project management in science and technology.

Audio and Video Production Techniques (48 hours)

This course aims to provide students with an overview of audio and video production. It will introduce students to the theoretical and application aspects of video content creation using a single camera. Applying the theories discussed, students will be assigned roles and work in teams to use audio, video and editing tools to produce short form content that would be suitable across traditional and online platforms.

WSP Eligibility

Singaporeans and Singapore Permanent Residents who are:

  • within three years of graduation from the Polytechnics or the Operational Ready Date (ORD) for full-time National Servicemen, or
  • within five years of graduation from the Polytechnics, and if their employer is a participating company.

Course Entry Requirement

Applicants should preferrably be a graduate of a feeder programme listed here.

Admission will be reviewed and approved by the polytechnic on a case-by-case basis.
