RP supports job seekers envisioning a career in growing sectors.

Singapore aims to achieve its “30 by 30” goal of having 30% of the country’s nutritional needs produced locally by 2030. To meet this target, the growing agri-tech and aquaculture sectors play an important role, driving research for innovative methods in food production.

Republic Polytechnic (RP) plays a vital role in developing Singapore’s food industries by imparting relevant agri-tech and aquaculture skills to those looking to begin a career and thrive in the field.

Launching Careers in Growing Fields

To support current and future job seekers, RP held its inaugural Agri-Tech and Aquaculture Career Fair on 6 June 2023, with the support of Enterprise Singapore, Singapore Food Agency (SFA), and Workforce Singapore. The Fair was also graced by Mr Alvin Tan, Guest-of-Honour, Minister of State for Trade and Industry (MTI) and Culture, Community and Youth (MCCY).

Job seekers were able to learn more about the agri-tech and aquaculture sectors from industry professionals through exhibition booths, talks, and panel discussions.

The attendees benefitted from a diverse range of industry and career insights at the event. Ento Industries Pte Ltd held a talk introducing their food waste research centred on black soldier flies. Panel discussions, such as “Careers in the Agri-tech & Aquaculture sector: Making that Switch!”, provided advice for adult learners planning to switch careers. Attendees were also able to engage directly with industry experts at the exhibition booths, and some individuals were even offered job opportunities on-site.

During the event, attendees also had the opportunity to tour The Greenhouse, RP’s specially constructed agricultural research facility equipped with industry-standard cultivation systems and state-of-the-art laboratories.

New Agri-Tech Opportunities

Two Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) between RP and biotechnology company, Ento Industries Pte Ltd, as well as seafood distributor, The Fish Farmer, were signed at the event.

Through the MOUs, RP plans to collaborate with both companies for education and training opportunities, supporting the agri-food sector through a supply of skilled graduates with industry experience.

Fruitful Job Transitions through Continuing Education

Adult learners looking to upskill and join these sectors can also benefit from RP’s industry collaborations and world-class facilities such as The Greenhouse and Aquaria.

Through a myriad of Continuing Education and Training (CET) courses such as RP’s Part-Time Diploma in Applied Science (Nutrition and Food Science) and Specialist Diploma in Agritechnology and Agribusiness, adult learners and working professionals can proactively deepen their knowledge and skills, enabling them to stay at the forefront of these growing sectors and adapt to their evolving demands.
