Study Group for SOI Students

Charity begins at home! RP School of Infocomm (SOI) students came together to care, support and create opportunities for bonding and knowledge sharing.

After surveying the Year 1 cohort to identify their most challenging modules, SOI decided to focus on Programming Fundamentals I (C110) and Computer Systems Technologies (C227) to provide additional support. Over four sessions held on 16, 19, 23 and 26 July 2024, 43 students benefitted from the support of the student teachers.

The initiative provided two forms of support. The first allowed participants autonomy and choice to approach student teachers as needed. The second paired 2 to 3 volunteers with each student teacher, who was responsible for guiding and assisting participants with their academic concerns.

By the end of the sessions, participants not only strengthened their foundational knowledge in both modules but also fostered a deeper bond with their peers, establishing a stable support system within SOI.

The 28 student teachers involved in this initiative also gained valuable experience. They deepened their understanding of the new Year 1 curriculum, particularly Windows OS, while refreshing their Python programming skills in preparation for the Certified Entry-Level Python Programmer Certification (PCEP) Exam. The activity also provided these student teachers with an opportunity to strengthen their communication, management, and planning skills. They demonstrated remarkable adaptability, effectively assessing needs and risks, and breaking down complex concepts into bite-size knowledge for the Year 1 students.
