e-ISLP Workshop for SMKN3 Batam

Bridging Knowledge Across Borders: Empowering Future Engineers through Virtual Learning and Global Collaboration

The e-International Service Learning (e-ISLP) workshop linked to the module, E213 Engineering Cost Decisions, was conducted from 5 to 12 August, via MS Teams with SMKN3 Batam, Indonesia a Vocational Engineering School. There was a total of 359 people from RP (348 students comprising 5 SEG diplomas taking E213 + 11 SEG staff) and 77 people from Batam (58 students from class XI + 19 staff) involved in this e-ISLP workshop.

The e-ISLP workshop was designed for RP students to share their knowledge by teaching selected topics from the E213 module to external participants. Through this e-ISLP, students are expected to deepen their understanding of the module by adopting a "learn as you teach" approach. Additionally, students acquire skills in engaging external audiences and generating interest in the topics shared via a virtual platform. This process fosters creativity and innovation in designing presentations, case studies, quizzes, kahoot activities, and exercises, while also enhancing their communication skills.

The workshop covered essential topics such as Costing, the Concept of Equivalence, the Time Value of Money, and various techniques for evaluating projects to set up businesses. These topics were chosen to align with the needs of SMKN3 Batam, which aims to inspire its students toward entrepreneurship by equipping them with foundational business knowledge.

Despite the language barrier and the Batam students' limited exposure to concepts such as costing and business setup considerations, the feedback received was overwhelmingly positive. The participants from Batam shared their appreciation for the sessions and how much they valued the opportunity to engage in this international learning experience.
