The launch of Republic Polytechnic's Xperiential Learning Centre (XLC) took place on 6 January 2022, in tandem with the kick-off of RP’s 20th Anniversary celebrations. The event was graced by Mr Tharman Shanmugaratnam, Senior Minister and Coordinating Minister for Social Policies, who officiated the opening of the XLC and toured the facility.

Together with him, invited guests from SHL’s Student Advisory Committee (SAC), SHL’s industry partners, Ministry of Education (MOE) as well as Land Transport Authority (LTA) also graced the occasion.

The XLC is Singapore’s first large-scale inclusive outdoor adventure facility. It is a purpose-built, weather-proof 20-metre tall tower that is equivalent to the height of a seven-storey building. The XLC is designed to allow people of varying abilities to participate in outdoor and adventure learning programmes safely, including the young, the elderly, and persons with disabilities (PWDs).

One of the XLC launch highlights was the activity demonstrations by staff from our Adventure Learning Centre and Diploma in Outdoor and Adventure Learning. Our staff demonstrated the 120m long Rollglider, wheelchair abseiling from a slab platform and traversing across a custom-built high challenge ropes course for wheelchair users.

The event was covered by a number of local media agencies. Here is a link to a CNA report of the XLC launch.
