Several students from the Diploma in Social Enterprise Management (DSEM) recently collaborated with Lakeside Family Services, or LFS, to attract volunteers for its social welfare programmes.

LFS is a local voluntary welfare organisation that provides disadvantaged individuals and families highly subsidised and quality services, including financial assistance and youth and children developmental programmes. The organisation also runs two family service centres, two student centres and a homeless shelter.

To sustain and increase their support to the community, LFS partnered with DSEM to conceptualise, design and manage a volunteer recruitment drive.

The students publicised the recruitment drive on social media with the slogan “Unique Friendship Experience”, hashtagged #UFE.

They also set up and ran a stall together with LFS’s Youth Services team at the launch of their new centre at Taman Jurong on 16 July 2016.

The students were commended on their innovative approach to volunteerism by Deputy Prime Minister Mr Tharman Shanmugaratnam, who graced the launch.

Mr Tharman, who is also the Coordinating Minister for Economic and Social Policies, also complimented DSEM student Nadirah on her logo design for the recruitment drive.
