RP places third in FINEX 2017
A delegation sent by Republic Polytechnic’s Investment & Finance Interest Group beat 80 other student teams to come in third in the recent Financial Expedition 2017 competition.
Team Harambe comprised of second-year Diploma of Social Enterprise Management student Samuel Chan, Owyong Zhen Zhen from the School of Hospitality and Jaron Tay from the School of Sports, Health and Leisure. The trio was led by staff advisor Mr Alan Seow.
Organised by the NTU Investment Interactive Club, Financial Expedition – or FINEX for short – is an educational team-based challenge open to all post-secondary and tertiary students in Singapore.
Participants learn via a series of interactive themed challenges around Singapore, à la The Amazing Race, financial management fundamentals such as basic budgeting, investments, trading and insurance.
This year’s grand finale was held at Microsoft Singapore’s headquarters at Marina Boulevard. Participants also got the chance to visit the offices of renowned financial institutions, like COMPANY and COMPANY, and gain insight into their day-to-day functions and processes.
For Samuel, the race also afforded him the opportunity to network with other financially savvy students and industry experts.
“What I have learnt [from FINEX 2017] is basically how to manage my finances the right way,” said Samuel. “I also got the chance to socialise and network with other teams.”
