A team of final year students from the School of Management and Communication’s Diploma in Mass Communication (DMC) emerged as champion in the Singapore Cancer Society (SCS) Interschool Competition 2021 under the Diploma/ITE Category. The competition aims to encourage youths to come up with creative ideas to support SCS’s mission: Minimising Cancer and Maximising Lives.

The winning team worked on the topic of Tobacco/Anti-Smoking. Our champions, Latisha Sonia Shaymentyran, Budimann Hakeem Bin Mohamed Amin and Alyssa Joy D. Gajeto - created a video, encouraging youths to stop smoking as it is the number one cause of lung cancer. Combining speech with a choreographed dance, the team delivered an enchanting monologue about the dangers of smoking.

They were also the only polytechnic students shortlisted as finalists in their category, and were crowned as overall winners by the judges during the grand finals which was held online via Zoom on 29 May 2021. The team received $1,200 in shopping vouchers as prize.

A total of 11 students from DMC participated in the competition this year, with four team and one solo entries.
