The HDB Community Week is an annual celebration of life in the heartlands, comprising of an exhibition and an award ceremony to honour and recognise community members and ground-up projects that bring people together.

This year, in the lead up to HDB Community Week 2019, HDB organized the HDB Build-A-Thon competition, comprising of a Social Innovation Workshop and competition where teams will pitch their innovative ideas and implementing solutions to create friendly and lively neighbourhoods. A total of 8 finalist teams were selected to implement their solutions and of the 8 teams, 6 teams included Republic Polytechnic Diploma in Business & Social Enterprise (DBSE) Year 3 students together with residents.

The Social Innovation workshop were conducted as Continuing Education and Training (CET) programme for HDB by School of Management and Communication (SMC) CET champions Stanley Kwek and Danny Lee.  Both of them were also the mentors for the 8 Finalist Teams to refine their ideas before the actual implementation in March to April 2019.
