A team of 3 students from Diploma in Mass Communication (DMC) & Diploma in Social Enterprise Management (DSEM) - Odell Jeremiah Dass, Vennila d/o Asokan and Muhammad Amirul Haquim B BM, mentored by DMC lecturer Greg Danker, won 2 awards: Best Video and Audience Choice in the “Planely Speaking – Your Great Aviation Story” Competition. This inaugural competition, jointly organised by the Ministry of Transport and the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore, invites youths to share their personal stories on how aviation has touched their lives. The organisers hoped that through this competition, youths will develop a deeper appreciation of the role that aviation has played in transforming the nation and the lives of Singaporeans; and that their stories will inspire more to join the aviation industry.
Their video, titled "Wanderlust", tells the story of a young girl who was born and raised in a racially diverse family. Her interest in aviation was sparked by her grandfather who was an aviation engineer. Her curiosity was piqued by the photographs of the aircrafts that her grandfather worked on.
The team received their awards from Mr Han Kok Juan, Chairman of the Singapore Airshow Aviation Leadership Summit (SAALS) and Deputy Secretary (Hub Strategy), Ministry of Transport. Mr Han complimented the team that their video not only touched the hearts of the judges, but also the audience.
