Youth Creates Finale Competition 2019
In conjunction with 2019’s edition of GetActive! Singapore, ActiveSG launched the inaugural YouthCreates, a platform and competition to empower youth to dream big and use sport as a force for social good. Youths were given the opportunity to come up with their own innovative ideas to make a meaningful difference through sport; and with ActiveSG's support, see these ideas come to life. This year topic was “how to encouraged sustained participation in physical activities and sports among youths”.
In the competition's Business Pitch National Finals, on 13 Jul, RP was represented by five teams made of students from different schools. A total of nine teams were selected from over 60 teams from the universities and polytechnics for the finals. Of the five RP teams, the majority consisted of our Diploma Plus students who learnt a lot during the competition.
The RP teams worked extremely hard as they had less than two weeks to strengthen their initial pitch. In the finals, two RP teams emerged with two of the top three prizes – Champion and Runner-up Finalist. The teams had the opportunity to showcase and present their ideas to a panel of judges, consisting of Mr David Chua (CEO of NYC), Mr Lionel Yeo (advisor to Grab), Adrian Ang (Co-founder of SGAG), Prem Chandiramani (Google Cloud) and Dr Derek Wang (Alibaba Cloud).
We are proud of our students who participated in the competition. The Champion team consisted of Diploma in Social Enterprise Management (DSEM) students from the School of Management and Communication. They were mentored by our SMC Senior Lecturer, Danny Lee.
