The course consists of three modules:

Module 1: Introduction to International Business

This module provides a broad overview of global business environment, understanding the rationale of developing an external economy for Singapore and factors affecting a firm's ability to compete domestically and globally. It also introduces new terminologies related to import/export procedures, commonly used shipping terms and trade financing mechanisms. 

Module 2: Marketing: An International Perspective

This is module allows students to understand basic theories in marketing such as the 4Ps and SWOT analysis using varying examples from an international perspective. Through practical case studies, this module covers an overview of marketing plan formulation to create exchanges across international boundaries.

Module 3: Cross-Cultural Business: Networking and Negotiation

This module introduces students to broad principles and issues related to cross-cultural business interactions, as well as provide opportunities for students to develop cross-cultural networking, communication and negotiation skills. Students will learn the broad approaches to business networking across cultures as well as basic business etiquette in a variety of Asian and western settings. They will also learn to communicate and negotiate effectively with business contacts and partners across cultures.



Leveraging on RP’s Problem-based Learning approach, the course will teach you core international business and marketing principles and concepts through interactive seminars, group discussions, case studies, multimedia resources, activities, and worksheets.


There are no examinations. You will be assessed entirely on course assignments and attendance. There is also no Reflection Journal component to this course.

Graduation Criteria

A minimum 80% attendance rate is required to pass each module.

You will need to pass all three modules in order to receive the Diploma Plus Certificate. Otherwise, you will only be awarded a certificate for the module that you pass.

You may retake a module if you fail it. But you must ultimately pass all three modules within eight months in order to be awarded the Diploma Plus Certificate.


DPCIB classes are held on weekday evenings during term time, and weekday mornings and afternoons during school holidays.

There will be no lessons during the Mid Semester Assessment and End Semester Examination periods.

There will also be no lessons on public holidays.

The DPCIB programme is open to all Republic Polytechnic Year 1 and Year 2 students with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 in Semester 2.

The estimated cohort intake for Academic Year 2022 is estimated to be 50. Acceptance is based on merit. Applicants with better scores will be considered for admission first, subject to the availability of vacancies.
