Fundamental Gymnastics Coaches Course

The Fundamental Gymnastics Coaches Course is the minimum requirement for coaching in gymnastics. This course is part of a certification process by Singapore Gymnastics.

Learning Objectives

Participants will gain the skills and knowledge to assist in preparing and coaching gymnastics sessions involving fundamental and gymnastics skills.

  • Coach Fundamental or novice participants to develop fundamental motor skills
  • Assist in preparing and conducting sport and recreation sessions
  • Develop and update knowledge of coaching practices

Who should attend?

Current & potential gymnastic coaches, athletes and teachers

Entry Requirement

  • 16 years and above
  • No background in Gymnastics are welcomed as well

Course Requirement

  • Pre-course workbook
  • On the job training (10 coaching hours)
  • Fundamental Face to Face Course (competency assessment)
  • First Aid Certificate (responsibility of individuals)*

*Please ensure that Standard First Aid (SFA) is to be done with NROC accredited SFA training providers. More information can be found here

Assessment

All assessment takes place during the face to face course; which includes:

  • Fundamental Face to Face Course – successfully complete practical assessment tasks at face to face course
  • On-line Submission of the Fundamental Workbook, with assessment tasks and 100% in the multiple-choice type questions in the workbook.
  • The workbook must be completed PRIOR TO DAY 1 of the course.

Certification

Upon successful completion of the Fundamental Gymnastics Coaches Course (including submission of Standard First Aid and approval of all other post-course documents), candidates would then receive:

  • A certificate of completion upon meeting the 75% course attendance requirement.

    For courses with formal assessment component, participants will be awarded the certification of completion upon passing the assessment. Otherwise, a certification of attendance will be issued instead upon meeting the 75% course attendance requirement.

  • Certificate of Achievement by CoachSG and Singapore Gymnastics
  • Technical Membership with Singapore Gymnastics for the year upon receipt of certificate of achievement. Membership expires on 31 December of each year.

Candidate will not be recognised as a certified coach until Singapore Gymnastics has at least released them their soft copy of their cert, upon receipt of their Standard First Aid and all other post-course documents.

Upon receipt of the Fundamental Coaching Certificate, candwidates would then be eligible to apply for NROC membership with COACHSG via www.sportsync.sg.  Please note that NROC membership is individual-initiated.

Career pathway

A SG Fundamental Coach can coach fundamental gymnastics skills in a Club or other gymnastics venue. Based around the SG Proficiency Awards Programme the Fundamental Coach can coach recreational classes and entry level disincline specific classes without saltos.

Or work as an assistant coach working under supervision, coaching any of the following gymnastic disciplines at a competitive level; Men’s, Women’s, Gymnastics for All (Recreational), Rhythmic and Trampoline.

For this course, we will be using the SportSG sports facilities. All participants are to adhere to the Safe Management Measures (SMMs) by SportSG that can be found here.  Do note that there will be no refunds of any course fee should you be denied entry into the facility.
