The School of Sports, Health and Leisure provides a wide range of lifelong learning courses in health and wellness, with a focus on two areas: community care and health and wellness for trainers. The community care courses meet a variety of needs by offering comprehensive instruction in providing care and managing health. The health and wellness for trainers courses provide health coaches with the knowledge and abilities to become successful advocates for healthy lifestyles. These programmes equip professionals to contribute favourably to the health and wellness sector.
Community and Care
Health and Wellness for Trainers
This course is designed for healthcare staff who require basic medical knowledge for effective communication at work. Relevant medical terminologies will be discussed.
This course will equip you with the competencies to prevent injuries while exercising. You will learn to recognise common sport injuries, along with the different types of reactive and preventive measures that can be adopted.
This course will act as a stepping stone for you to become an effective fitness instructor. You will learn about basic fitness assessments, techniques to handle gym equipment safely, and more.
This course will cover a range of topics -- from injury management to psychology. You will also be equipped with the knowledge to enhance physical performance and maintenance.
This course will equip you with the skills, knowledge, and confidence to empower children in achieving physical literacy; preparing them for an active, enriching life.
This course is designed to equip you with the sport science knowledge to coach competitive athletes in their early years of competition.
This course will help you build an awareness on risks associated to sport and recreational events. You will also learn how to manage those risks.
This course will allow you to harness the skills and knowledge to create evidence-based programmes for elderly as well as persons with disabilities. You will also learn how to prescribe appropriate resistance training to both groups.
The Skills Based Modular Courses (SBMC) are modules selected from Specialist Diplomas or Part-Time Diplomas. It enables you to acquire new skills or deepen relevant skills without the need to enroll into a full programme. Classes are conducted in the evening or weekends, and modules require between 30 and 60 hours to complete.
This course will provide you with an overview of advanced care integration. Resources available for patients, families, and caregivers will also be discussed.
This course will provide you with the skills and knowledge to co-manage patients with chronic diseases. Principles of palliative care for advance care planning will also be covered.

This course will provide you with an in-depth understanding of the biopsychosocial needs of seniors. You will learn to view ageing from a holistic perspective and manage biological, physical, psychological and physiological ageing.
This course will look into chronic diseases among elderly. Your learning will focus on care for seniors with chronic diseases. You will also be equipped with the knowledge to promote health behaviours.
This course equips you with advanced communication and health coaching skills. It also prepares you to educate clients on chronic disease management, mental health issues, polypharmacy and coping strategies in a more engaging and compassionate manner.
This course will discuss the role of psychological theory and methodology in maintaining healthy functioning. Among topics covered are health risk behaviour, healthy behavior, and rehabilitation.
This course will introduce you to a range of tools that can be used for physical and psychosocial assessment of the aged. Upon completion, you will be well-equipped to conduct various assessments independently.
This course will focus on care quality and patient safety. You will also be equipped with knowlede on patient assesment for various needs -- including biopsycholosocial, financial, and nursing.

This course will prepare you to take on the role of a Care Coordinator Associate. You will be equipped with the skills and know-hows to support medical professionals in the delivery of transitional care.
This course will help you better understand seniors. It will also equip you with the skills and knowledge to promote healthy behaviours.
This course will enable you to play a part in keeping seniors healthy in the community. It will look into areas such as exercise science, health promotion, health coaching, care coordination, and care navigation skills.
This course enables you to become a well-informed Health & Wellness Coaches who can help clients with various conditions to modify their health behaviours to improve quality of life and health outcomes.
This course will equip you with fundamental knowledge and skills in exercising. You will get to learn about exercise terminologies, human anatomy, nutrition, aerobic training, and more.
This course will equip you with the fundamentals to conduct group fitness classes. Various class formats and the use of music for group exercise will also be discussed.
An inspiring coach can make all the difference in a sportsperson’s development. A coach’s influence extends beyond the sport, imparting life skills such as problem-solving, communication, decision-making, leadership, and perseverance. This full-day Values and Principles in Sports (VPS) programme is designed by Sport Singapore and the Ministry of Education (MOE) to help sport coaches recognise the value of sports, and in particular, the role of the coach.
This course reinforces the concept of counselling being a special relationship built on confidentiality, mutual respect and open communication with the intention to help people.
