SHL staff, Nur 'Aini Mohamad Yasli, became the first Singapore Paralympian to compete in powerlifting, as she came in sixth out of nine athletes in the women's under-45kg division at the Tokyo Paralympics on Thursday, 26 August 2021.

Despite being diagnosed at age six with multiple epiphyseal dysplasia, which impacted her bone growth, Aini has not allowed her imitations to define her. She has been powerlifting since 2017 and has now competed with the best in the world.

Aini shared, "I would like to thank everyone who sent me encouraging messages to cheer me on during the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. As spectators were not allowed, these sweet and lovely messages accompanied me throughout the Games. I am grateful for the strong support that assures me I am not alone in this journey!'
