YouthxHack 2022 – our students are our pride!

From 5 to 10 September, Republic Polytechnic (RP) hosted the inaugural cybersecurity-themed hackathon, YouthxHack 2022, organised by Cyber Youth Singapore. RP is honoured to have Mr Alvin Tan, Minister of State, Ministry of Trade and Industry, and Ministry of Culture, Community & Youth, to grace the pitch day and closing ceremony.

The hackathon saw over 80 youths across polytechnics, ITEs, junior colleges and universities coming together to address problem statements regarding “Automation in Cybersecurity”. Participants competed in teams of four to five students, and each sponsor selected one team each to further develop and incubate the projects.

Our Youths-in-Tech embraced the spirit of innovation, perseverance and determination to conceptualise ideas, and solutions targeted at automating workflows within the cybersecurity field. Many participants met each other for the first time during this Hackathon. Yet, they were able to work efficiently together to address the problem statements.

We would like to extend our congratulations to our RP-SOI students, champion and winning teams:

Champion Team: Top G (Tan Fangyi, DISM Year 3 student) is part of the winning team) – all students from this team get a chance to be part of an overseas study exchange and learning journey package (flight and accommodation), sponsored by ST Engineering Cybersecurity.

Winning Team: Malware Vikings
(Su Myat Naing, Valerie Lim, Muhammad Dinie Bhavana Krishna, all from DISM Year 2 cohort, with another polytechnic team mate) – all won an individual $1,000 digital certification sponsorship from Exabyte.

Commendation / Special Mention: Lit Giraffes (Mohammad Harris, DISM Year 1 student, is part of the commendation team) – although the team did not win, their efforts and participation were still very impressive and recognised.
