Preparing for a Stage Production

Are you curious about what it takes to stage a production? This Applied Learning Module provides you with hands-on experience working in a production team for a ‘live’ event. You will learn all the elements required to stage a theatrical production, including using stage technologies, designing sets and props, and creatively using lighting and sound elements to create immersive experiences for the audience! But beyond the technical aspects, you will also learn what it takes to collaborate as an effective crew member, make creative judgements, and develop teambuilding skills by attuning yourself to the multi-faceted competencies required in planning and staging a production. At the end of the module, students will be able to:

  • Prepare a presentation or performance based on a given story using a range of production elements

  • Design simple costume, sets, props, lighting, and sound elements for a small-scale theatre production

  • Explain how creative decisions influence the final outcome of a production

  • Describe why collaboration is important amongst team members who perform diverse roles and contribute different skillsets

Students are also exposed to creative thinking and problem solving through various hands-on activities that will immerse them into the magic of theatre making, allowing them to showcase a final product that expresses their ideas.
