BrainHack 12th June 2025 - 3
"There were moments when we felt completely stuck — but breaking down challenges step by step and trusting each other’s strengths made all the difference." That was the biggest lesson Selvendrasamy Mithun Vendra took away from the BrainHack 2025 Sentinel Challenge Capture the Flag competition, where his team emerged victorious.
The student competed through the Sentinel Programme — a talent development initiative by MINDEF Singapore and organised by the Digital and Intelligence Service, designed to equip youths with cybersecurity and digital skills.
Together with Goh Hong Wei from Singapore Polytechnic and Ho Jun Wei from Ngee Ann Polytechnic, Mithun took on high-pressure, real-world challenges in reverse engineering, binary exploitation, web application security, network traffic analysis, and advanced memory forensics.
“When I found out that my team was crowned champions, I was overwhelmed with relief, pride, and excitement,” Mithun shares. “It wasn’t just about winning — it was proof that I could successfully apply my skills in a high-pressure and real-world environment.”
Mithun’s achievement reflects the spirit of #GreaterPossibilities — proving that when RP students are given the right opportunities and support, they can reach extraordinary heights.
