3rd Prize Winners for the IEEE ICME Grand Challenge

The IEEE International Conference on Multimedia & Expo (ICME) has been the flagship multimedia conference sponsored by four IEEE societies since 2000. Serving as a foremost platform to promote latest advances in multimedia technologies, systems and applications, the ICME attracts sizeable participation from both the industry and the academia.

A team of students from the Diploma in Electrical & Electronics Engineering (DEEE) and the Electronics IG submitted an entry and was awarded the 3rd prize in the Grand Challenge “Few-Shot Learning for vehicle footprint recognition” under ICME2021.

The grand challenge was opened to university students, academic researchers and industry practitioners. The objective of the grand challenge was to design a few-shot learning model for tire pattern image classification and retrieval which is imperative for effective traffic accident management.

The team successfully developed an AI model “Pix2Pt Map for Transfer-Based Few-Shot Learning” which was able to classify tire pattern given a query image of either tread pattern or tire indentation mark with satisfactory performance.

Please join us in congratulating the following students for their considerable feat!

Syed Ariff Syed Hesham, RA, Alumni of DEEE
Sui JinZhou, Member of Electronics IG, DEEE
Gabrielle Ee Song Xin, Member of Electronics IG, DEEE
