Republic Polytechnic’s Diploma in Environmental Science (DENV) and Diploma in Materials Science (DMTS) Year 3 students have made us proud again!

At the Green Wave Environmental Care Project for Schools' 20th Anniversary Award Presentation Ceremony held by Sembcorp Marine on 16 February 2023, Mr Chan Chun Sing, Minister for Education, presented the awards to our students for their outstanding projects.

The Green Wave Environmental Care Competition aims to encourage students to take responsibility for their environment and inspire them to think innovatively.

Under the guidance of Dr Leong Wen Shing and Dr Antara Chakraborty, our DMTS students Yu Wen Qian, Lim Xin Yue Nicole, Toh Zhen How, and C Devya Darshini received the Third Prize for their project “Sustainable Packaging Material with Potential Antimicrobial Activity”.

Yee Jia En, Chin Celine, and Crystal Tan Xuan Xuan from DMTS, supervised by Ms Rueyna Lam and Ms Lee Heng Wuan, also attained a Commendation Award for their project “Upcycling and Development of Food Waste Foam”.

Additionally, our DENV students Tan Boon Chuen, Linus Chan, Lam Yu Kit, Seow Sze Heng, and Shashidar Pillai S/O Balasundram earned a Commendation Award for their project “Valorisation of Okara Waste Using Black Soldier Fly” under the mentorship of Dr Lily Ganda. Boon Chuen was also awarded the Good Presenter Award.

The competition gave the participating students a platform to apply the knowledge and skills they acquired in their diploma studies to explore sustainable solutions for a better future.
