From logistics to intelligent systems, you will be able to take on any engineering projects with confidence. The Diploma in Engineering Systems & Management (DESM) equips you with project management, systems thinking and problem-solving skills, on top of engineering expertise in emerging technologies.

The interdisciplinary knowledge you gain will help you assess the interdependency of connected systems in large-scale projects.

Learn about automation, robotics and land transport systems, as well as the technical hardware, programming and operational artistry behind them. You will also learn how social and economic policies impact engineering decisions.

Acquire practical learning experiences when you embark on an internship programme which will prepare you to competently manage and execute projects of any scale.

I developed valuable problem-solving skills during my time at RP, while gaining a practical understanding of our transport system. The knowledge and experience gained from my studies, coupled with the strong industry collaboration by Diploma in Engineering Systems & Management (DESM), enabled me to have a successful internship with SMRT. This eventually helped me land my current job as a Station Manager with SMRT.

The course structure consists of general, discipline, and specialisation modules. There is also an industry orientation component.

Industry Orientation Programme#

#Note: Final-year students embarking on the Industry Orientation Programme (IOP) will take on the following modules:

  • Industry Immersion Programme* only, OR
  • Industry Immersion Programme and Industry Immersion Programme II** OR
  • Industry Immersion Programme (Special Programme) and Industry Immersion Programme II***

*This includes one Project, plus one of the following options: Corporate Innovation Immersion Programme, Entrepreneurial Immersion Programme or Industry Immersion Programme.

**Eligible students who meet the prerequisites will be given the option to select Industry Immersion Programme II (IIP II). The coverage of IIP II will be equivalent to one Specialisation Module, one Elective Module, two Freely Chosen Modules, and one Project. Students will undertake IIP II during Semester 2 of the final year, for the diploma of study.

***Eligible students who meet the prerequisites will be given the option to select Industry Immersion Programme (IIP) (Special Programme) and Industry Immersion Programme II (IIP II) in their final year of studies. IIP (Special Programme) is offered in partnership with companies/organisations that have unique training requirements. The coverage of IIP II will be equivalent to one Specialisation Module, one Elective Module, two Freely Chosen Modules, and one Project. Students will undertake IIP II during Semester 2 of the final year, for the diploma of study.
