Students from RP Diploma in Aerospace Avionics (DAA) and Diploma in Aerospace Engineering (DAE) bagged three awards at the Singapore Amazing Flying Machine Competition (SAFMC) held at NUS High from the 15 to 18 March 2017.

Organised by DSO National Laboratories and Science Centre Singapore, SAFMC is an annual competition where local and international flying enthusiasts gather to showcase their innovative flying machine designs and put them to the test by competing against one another. Competitors were required to go through a series of presentations before displaying their aerobatic maneuvers through a challenging obstacle course.

The team from DAA won 2 Sales Contract Award for Category E (Unconventional Flying Machines), including the 1st championship. In what thought to be their most innovative flying machine design, the team from DAE clinched the 2nd runner up for Most Creative Award in Category D1 (Semi-Automatic Flying Machines) based on creativity of platform, creativity of tasks performed, and creative use of props.

The award ceremony was graced by Dr Mohamad Maliki Bin Osman, Senior Minister of State, Ministry of Defence & Ministry of Foreign Affairs & Mayor, South East District.
