Organised by RP Diploma in Electrical and Electronic Engineering, the annual Underwater Robotic Olympiad saw 165 students from 17 secondary schools competing in the underwater arena for the best Underwater Robotic Vehicle award. Returning for its 9th run, the latest rendition of the workshop-cum-competition, themed “Robot Spartan Race”, challenged the students’ creative problem-solving skills in building the best underwater robot using just simple tool-kits and recyclable materials.

Students worked in teams of five to design, build, and control underwater robots to surmount a series of obstacles. The robots were then judged based on their design and their ability to navigate, submerge and perform precise anchoring. After rounds of intense competition, Regent Secondary School emerged victorious, while Yishun Secondary School and Bukit Merah Secondary School were awarded the 1st and 2nd Runner-up prizes respectively.

Besides battling it out in the underwater arena, students also voted for their favourite underwater robotic vehicle on Facebook, with the School of Science and Technology emerging as champion for the “Most Likes Facebook Competition”.
