Wang Shihui, a Year 3 student from the Diploma in Sustainable Built Environment, was conferred the “Young Member of the Year” award by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) Singapore. This award recognises her commitment, contributions, and exceptional leadership in the field of engineering.

She is also the President of the IMechE RP Interest Group. In the role, Shihui spearheaded service-learning projects like CareKids, where she and her team taught young children the Arduino programming language and how to set up MeArm robotic arms.

Her dedication extended to organising regional competitions like the Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) Design Competition SEA 2023, where students have the opportunity to transform their innovative ideas into reality.

Reflecting on her journey, Shihui expressed gratitude for the opportunity to lead IMechE RP. “This role has been a transformative journey, allowing me to hone my leadership skills and organise service-learning projects to share the wonders of engineering with young minds.”

Currently interning at PICO, Shihui plans to pursue a degree in Engineering and Infrastructure Management at a local university.

The unique RP educational approach emphasises confidence, resilience, and abiding care for the environment and communities to cultivate articulate self-starters like Shihui.
